First black woman elected to Ohio high court touts education in Marion
MARION — Ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody Stewart would never have guessed her mother had not completed high school, she said.
When she was young, her mother had always stressed the importance of education, she said.
"I just assumed she was speaking from experience," she said.
Stewart, who became the first black woman to win election to the Ohio Supreme Court in November 2018, spoke at the 42nd annual Black Heritage Council of Marion County Awards Banquet on Saturday.
